In the middle of Tsumago Post Station, you see the Waki-honjin which is the preserved sub main inn used to support samurai warrior’s processions in Edo period. It has special lattice designed to take as much sunlight as possible during cold winter season. From December to Februaly, we can enjoy the spectacles made by light passing through the lattice.
妻籠宿の脇本陣で、冬期間（12～3月）だけ見られる不思議な光景。絶妙な間隔の格子と囲炉裏から立ち上る煙が織りなす光のドラマだ。国内だけでなく海外にもファンが多く、写真撮影のために毎年訪れるリピーターもいるほど。午前から午後にかけて差し込む角度が時間とともに変化して、いつまで見ていても飽きない。

Borderless Tatami-mat are used in the main dining room. Years of use and smoke from “Irori”(hearth) gives special luster on its surface.
